Do you ever feel like you do everything right only to fail, while others who don’t try as hard succeed?
I had no answer to this question until I came across Contenders – “Resilience” presented by David Arcos in the Mosaic podcast archive. Contenders was a series in conjunction with the Olympics focusing on what it takes to be a champion in life.
There are few champions as great in our day as Roger Federer. I read an article on Rodger Federer by SI printed before the French Open. For years Federer didn’t have to bounce back. That was until Nadal started beating him. His failure, though, led him to success.

Federer learned resillience and captured a career Grand Slam by winning the French Open.
The podcast showed me we must learn resilience – the ability to bounce back. At times I’ve tried to do different things but seemed to be get little traction. What I learned from Arcos is we only learn to bounce back when we have to. In times of difficulty we learn to fight our way out.
There is success through failure. The fight to be better makes us better. Trying harder makes us stronger. We need that strength to succeed and to lead.
